Skills & Coaching

What would you like to feel more confident doing on a bike?

Whether you’re learning from scratch, getting back on after years away, or sharpening skills you already have — there’s a place to start.

Skills build confidence. Confidence gives you the freedom to actually ride: to explore, to join in, to go where you want to go. That’s the point of everything below.

Where are you at?

I want to learn to ride

Starting from scratch, or getting back on a bike after a very long time.

I can ride — I want to ride better

From the basics through to bike handling, road riding and group riding. Whether you’d call yourself nervous or fairly competent, it’s the same work.

I just want to ride

Social rides and opportunities to get out there and enjoy your bike.

Something for your child or school?

Learn-to-ride and bike skills for children, plus programs for schools, kindergartens and community organisations.

How would you like to learn?

Probably a more useful question than which category you fall into.

Skills we can work on

Jump to: Learn to ride · Braking · Gears · Cornering · Hills · Descending · Road riding · Group riding · Bike setup · Event preparation

  • Learning to ride — from never having ridden, or after a long time off
  • Balance — the foundation everything else sits on
  • Braking — how much, how early, and why the front brake isn’t the enemy
  • Gears — which one, when, and why your chain complains
  • Cornering — where to look, when to lean, choosing your line
  • Hills — climbing them, and pacing yourself properly
  • Descending — with control rather than hope
  • Road riding — positioning, traffic, reading what’s around you
  • Group riding — holding a wheel, signalling, riding predictably
  • Bike handling — the general competence that makes everything else easier
  • Bike setup — saddle height, reach and position, so riding stops hurting
  • Event preparation — training toward a ride or race you’ve entered
  • Roadside repairs — a flat fixed in minutes rather than a phone call home

Not on the list? Ask anyway. If it’s about riding a bike, it’s probably something we can work on.
