Kids and schools

Getting children riding is the best thing I do.

It’s the one skill that gives a child real independence, and they remember who taught them.

For parents

Free — Training Wheels to Two Wheels

Council-supported lessons for children going without training wheels for the first time. Ages 4 and up. You attend too — partly because it’s required, mostly because you’ll learn how to help at home, which is where the real progress happens.

Free — Children’s Bike Skills

The next step: bike handling and road awareness for footpaths, bike paths and quiet streets. Ages 6 and up.

A lesson for your child

If your child would do better one-on-one, or you’d like to work on something specific.

Riding together

Once they’re going, the Oceanway social rides are open to families.

A great way to get the family involved outdoors. I couldn’t wipe the grin off my face.

For schools, kindergartens and camps

I run cycling programs for schools, kindergartens, camps and community organisations across the Gold Coast — learn-to-ride, bike skills and road safety, delivered by an accredited coach and Olympic gold medallist.

What I can deliver

  • Learn-to-ride programs, from balance bikes upward
  • Bike skills and handling sessions
  • Road awareness and safety
  • School camp cycling activities
  • Kindergarten and early-years learn-to-ride
  • Teacher and parent-helper briefings, so the skills continue after I leave

Why it works

Children learn faster in short, well-structured sessions than in one long one, and they learn more when the adults around them know what to reinforce. I’ll set your program up so that happens.

Accreditation and cover

  • AusCycling accredited coach — Level 2 (Advanced), covering road, track and MTB
  • Blue Card — Queensland Working with Children Check
  • Current first aid certification
  • $20 million public liability cover, held through AusCycling
  • Sara Carrigan Cycling Pty Ltd

Supervision ratios, as set by my accreditation: 1 coach to 15 riders in non-traffic environments · 2 coaches to 5 children in low-traffic environments · minimum 3 riders when working with under-18s

Additional coaches are covered under the same policy, so larger programs — a whole year group, or a camp running multiple sessions at once — are possible.
