Just ride
This is what the skills are for.
You’ve learned, you’ve built the confidence — now here are the chances to get out and use it. One of these is free, relaxed and open to everyone. The other starts at 5:15am. Have a read of both before you pick.
Oceanway social rides — free
A guided ride along the Gold Coast Oceanway, around 90 minutes at a relaxed pace with frequent stops to regroup and chat. Some of the best views on the coast, and a good way to find routes you’ll want to ride again on your own.
- Who it’s for: everyone. All bikes, all levels, families welcome.
- Children: must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
- Cost: free — council-supported, booked through the City.
Go for Gold cycling bunch
A group of riders who share a common interest in cycling for fitness and fun. Shared effort, plenty of laughter, and a bunch that genuinely looks after each other.
- When: 5:15am Thursdays, from Coffee Sisters, Broadbeach Waters
- Distance: around 30km
- Pace: 20–30km/h average, no-drop — nobody gets left behind
- Bikes: road bikes only
- After: coffee. Non-negotiable.
Is this ride for me?
You’ll get the most out of it if you’re comfortable riding around 30km and holding 20km/h or better in a group. No-drop means we won’t leave you behind — but you’ll enjoy it more if the distance isn’t a stretch.
Not there yet? A few sessions will get you ready.
Come for a trial ride
You don’t need to join anything to try us out. Two things first:
1. Get in touch. A quick chat with me or a ride leader before you turn up — partly so we know your experience, partly so you know what to expect. It’s not a test. It’s how we keep the bunch safe.
2. Sort out free insurance cover. AusCycling offers a free trial membership including public liability and personal accident cover for club and group rides. Costs nothing, takes a few minutes, and means you’re protected — and so are our ride leaders.
Joining properly
1. AusCycling membership. Cover protects you against third-party claims, medical expenses and loss of income — and covers our accredited ride leaders and coaches for claims arising from their decisions on a ride. AusCycling cover does that; other cycling memberships, Bicycle Queensland included, don’t. That’s why we can’t be flexible on it.
2. Membership form. Includes the Membership Agreement, Code of Conduct, Bunch Etiquette and Bike Safety requirements.
3. Private Facebook group. Ride updates and changes happen here.
Before your first ride
Have a read of the Bunch Etiquette and Coach Terminology pages. Bunch riding has its own language and hand signals, and knowing them beforehand makes the first morning much less daunting.
A great way to get the family involved outdoors. I couldn’t wipe the grin off my face.

This shows all my sessions and rides, so you’ll see beginner workshops here too. Go for Gold runs 5:15am every Thursday.
