About

I won the women’s road race at the Athens Olympics in 2004. I’ve been an Australian champion, a Commonwealth Games medallist and a World Cup winner, and I was awarded an OAM for services to cycling.

That was one life. This is the next one.

In 2009 I started coaching on the Gold Coast, and it turned out to be the part I love most. Not the medals, but the moment someone who arrived uncertain they could do it… and then rides away grinning.

These days I deliver the City of Gold Coast’s free Active Travel cycle workshops, coach riders one-on-one, and lead the Go for Gold bunch on Thursday mornings. I’m also a mother, which has taught me more about patience than any coaching course did.

If you’re nervous about starting, that’s the most normal thing in the world, and it’s the group I work with most.

What riders say

“A great way to get the family involved outdoors. I couldn’t wipe the grin off my face.”
Rose — family Oceanway ride

“I developed the belief that I can actually do this — and the skills to make sure I will.”
Peggy — absolute beginners workshop

“I gained the confidence to take my bike onto the road. I didn’t realise how much you can learn, and learn the right way, rather than going through trial and error.”
Alethea — hadn’t ridden in 30 years

“My biggest fear was failing or hurting myself. Sara made me feel the most important thing was to have fun.”
Jenny — learned to ride as an adult
