Ultimate Gold Ride -April 2013

Ultime Gold for Gold Cyclign Bunch Ride

A wonderful celebration on Sunday 14th April 2013 with the GOforGOLD Bunch setting out on our Ultimate Gold Ride! Every 12 weeks or so the ‘Ultimate Gold’ ride takes place on a weekend for a longer endurance ride of up to 100km (Thursday ‘beginner’ Bunch) to 150km (Tuesday ‘intermediate’ Bunch) through the Gold Coast hinterland.

The idea of this ultimate challenge is to provide Gold Bunch riders something to aim towards, to challenge themselves, to see parts of the Gold Coast they may have never seen, and to ride their bike a distance or pace they never thought possible! Afterwards, we all enjoy a well-earned feast and award prizes to the most improved.

On Sunday our group of almost 40 riders set off in three bunches – one to complete 70km and the other two to complete 120km. For most riders in each of these bunches, their respective distances would be the longest they had ever ridden!

It was glorious weather to enjoy a fabulous ride and to congratulate Col and Gary who were both awarded the most improved with a new pair of Oakleys each – well deserved!

A heart-felt thank you to Suz and Pen (the Coffee Sisters) who provide us with a wonderful venue & beautiful coffee, Oakley Australia who support our bunch with the coolest eyewear and believe in our program and all of you who are dedicated to our collective goal of providing a positive cycling bunch experience and creating a safer place for cyclists and motorists on our roads.

It couldn’t happen without my team of dedicated ride leaders in Aaron,Renee, Cassie & Stevo, who strive to provide a safe, fun, challenging and social atmosphere in which to enjoy riding, and meet a great bunch of individuals who share our enthusiasm, our joy for cycling and commitment to positive lifestyle choices. Thank you so much xx

Hey Guys,
Thanks for a great day of cycling both last  Sunday (Thursday Gold Bunch) and on the weekend (Tuesday Gold Bunch), which were our second lot of Ultimate Gold Rides organised for 2011.

TUESDAY GOforGOLD BUNCH REPORT
Congratulations to you all for taking on the challenge of Tamborine Mountain, a climb that only the brave and enthusiastic dare to conquer! There are 5 sides to this berg and we ascended the 2nd easiest that was approximately 7km in length containing a 2km section of 13-15% gradient. In Pauly’s words, “GET SOME NUTS!”

We were blessed with some of the most perfect Gold Coast weather so there were plenty of beautiful views to enjoy on the upward journey. As ‘virgin’ Mt Tamborine climbers, you tackled this beast for the very first time, and you all smashed it in style, brimming with pride at the top – well deserved!

On the trip back home, we had great cohesion with good speed and were back to the Coffee Sisters in good time for a well earned coffee, breaky and presentations.

Congratulations once again to our highest Gold collectors and our most improved riders who were:

Highest Gold Collector: Neil – HLC Massage
Neil took out the Gold Tally Honours for the Tuesday GOforGOLD bunch and was awarded an HLC massage to keep those legs turning and the body functioning at optimal, great work for once again taking top spot!

Most Improved and 2nd highest Gold Collector: Belinda– New pair of Oakley Radars
Belinda our most improved rider as well as the 2nd highest Gold collector for the Tuesday bunch. Initially, Bel struggled sitting in the bunch, holding a wheel and driving along the flat. However, now she is an absolute machine and we are proud of your improvement! Courtesy of Oakley, Bel was awarded a pair of Oakley Radars for her amazing efforts, which will keep her looking cool and fast, well done!

3rd highest Gold Collector: Flower – 2xu compression tights
Flower rounded out the top 3 for the Tuesday bunch and will now keep well recovered legs with her new pair of 2XU compression tights.

THURSDAY GOforGOLD BUNCH REPORT
It was a great final ride for the Thursday GO for Gold Bunch, where we climbed mountains, challenged ourselves and conquered our fears.   We were very lucky to get the warmest day of Winter to attack the 10km climb up to the Lower Beechmont Shop, and for those who dared to venture further, an extra 10km of climbing through to the Beechmont Roundabout.  Congratulations to all of you for taking on the challenge and making it such an enjoyable ride.
Congratulations once again to our highest Gold collectors and our most improved riders who were:

Highest Gold Collector: Jeanette – Oakley Radars
Jeanette took out the Gold Tally Honours for the Thursday GOforGOLD bunch and was awarded a new pair of Oakley Radars for her amazing efforts, which will keep her looking cool and fast, well done!

2nd highest Gold Collector: Leanne– HLC Massage
Leanne was our 2nd highest Gold collector for the Thursday bunch and courtesy of HLC, awarded a massage to keep the body in tip-top condition!

Most Improved and 3rd highest Gold Collector: Bernie – 2xu Compression Garments
Bernie was our most improved rider as well as the 3rd highest Gold collector for the Thursday bunch. Bernie’s fitness, weight, climbing and riding have improved dramatically and we are so proud of your improvements, well done!  You can now keep well recovered legs with his new pair of 2XU compression tights.
